The Children’s Bureau of Southern California is a non-profit foundation dedicated to advancing the welfare of children and families through programs in foster care, adoptions, child development, parent education, mental health, research and advocacy. For their Magnolia Center project near downtown Los Angeles, House & Robertson led the adaptive reuse of an existing tilt-up industrial building to create a 47,000-sq.-ft. facility with offices, a community center, an interior mall with tenant spaces for the Bureau’s community partners, and an eight-classroom daycare center. An 8,000-sq.-ft. playground was also developed on the site adjacent to the building. The project was the recipient of the 2009 Project Achievement Award from the Southern California chapter of the Construction Management Association.
