As part of a major project, a global entertainment company in Burbank, California elected to hold an artists’ competition to design a new pedestrian bridge over Riverside Drive to connect the two parts of their studio property. After the concept put forth by Los Angeles-based sculptor Liz Larner was selected, House & Robertson was engaged in 1999 to collaborate with Ms. Larner in exploring how her serpentine blue Lucite conceptual model could be evolved into a constructible bridge using curved steel plate girders, sculptural concrete pillars, metal panels and blue acid-etched laminated glass. HRA’s developed design package was eventually used by the architect for the larger project in coordination with the builder.
