House & Robertson was responsible for all aspects – planning studies, design, documentation and construction— of the newly constructed headquarters for the non-profit Legal Aid Foundation Los Angeles headquarters. Owing to LAFLA’s mission to deliver services to communities most in need, the 45,000-sq.-ft. four-story building is located in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union neighborhood. The new LAFLA headquarters maximizes the small site with an intake center, client Resource Center, office space, multiple outdoor terraces, a semi-enclosed at-grade parking level, and a fourth-floor boardroom that opens onto a useable roof deck with panoramic views. Part of the Union Street façade is comprised of an art wall consisting of large mosaic panels (mandalas) designed and executed by members of the neighboring community under the direction of local art non-profit Piece by Piece. Construction is projected to be complete in August of 2017.
